Ronald McDonald House, Wellington

Ronald McDonaldNew World is delighted to sponsor the new kitchen in the Ronald McDonald House in Wellington. For nearly 20 years the Ronald McDonald House in Wellington has helped seriously ill children and their families with free accommodation and support when they have to travel to Wellington for specialist medical care.  The current House is too small and just about every day the House has to turn families away.

Families who stay at the House have children in the neo natal unit, suffering a serious illness, needing surgery or requiring specialist ICU care. All patients are aged 21 or under and most live more than 100kms away from Wellington.

Plans are well underway to start construction of a new 35 bedroom House directly across the road from the Hospital in March 2011.  At a cost of nearly $15m, the house will offer families a unique community environment which most call their ‘home away from home’.  The 21 ensuite bedrooms and 4 apartments will give families a place to have some much needed rest.  5 Lounges will offer families a lot of relaxation space complimented by a substantial dining and kitchen area which is always appreciated by the families, like in all other homes, the kitchen always seems to be the heart of our house.

Individual New World supermarkets in the lower North Island, their Owner Operators and staff  have been involved with the Wellington Ronald McDonald house for many years.    As caring Kiwis we have always been in touch with our customers and especially those of them who have medical needs from time to time.  It makes sense that we get seriously involved in the new Ronald McDonald House in Wellington and we are delighted to be able to do our thing in the kitchen.   Food is our thing and this is a fantastic place to do it , supporting the families who use the Ronald McDonald House kitchen.
