Active Movement
Active Movement is all about the importance of movement in children under five, it looks at how movement helps with healthy devolvement of a child’s brain and body and how it increases learning. Children are born to move and in the early stages they have a desire to move and learn about themselves and their relationships to the environment in which they live. Active Movement is about the all round growth of a child – social, cognitive, physical and emotional, involving simple basic ways to get active with under fives.
Active Movement is a nationwide SPARC initiative, and it is delivered in the community by Active Movement advisors who work within the Regional Sports Trusts. They are responsible for delivering the initiative to parents, caregivers and teachers. The Active Movement Advisor works predominantly with parents/caregivers, teachers, Early Childhood Centres and parent groups looking at how Active Movement can be used in the home or within a centre.
The Active Movement resources are available - a brochure pack of 14 different booklets and 2 DVD's. Theses are great for learning more and getting creative activity ideas to do with young children that involve minimal or no equipment and can be done around the house. These are available by phoning 0800 ACTIVE (0800 22 84 83), which is an answer machine line or by contacting your local Regional Sports Trust.
