Snacks and lunches for losing weight

We had a question for our lovely nutritionist Rebecca. "I was wondering if you could tell me some low kilojoule lunch ideas. My baby is 11 months and I am getting married in November and am wanting to lose some weight."
Rebecca's answer was, "Firstly congratulations on being pro-active towards long term weight loss. Starting now is ideal and completely achievable. Short term weight loss (i.e following a fad diet for three weeks) is very unlikely to result in long term weight loss. I have compiled a list of low calorie snacks and lunch ideas for you to try. As with anything - try and keep variety in your diet or else it will difficult to stick too.
- Aim for meals based around vegetables; so salads, soups and stir-frys are a good way to start.
- Canned tuna is a good source of protein (the nutrient that is most satisfying) so add to salads and sandwiches.
- Again, any type of legume (chickpeas, lentils and kidney bean) are valuable sources of protein, as well as being low fat so add these to soups, salads and casseroles.
- Choose wholegrain bread and make yourself a sandwich with a variety of fillings. Include lots of salad vegetables and if you want cheese try cottage cheese which is a lot lower in fat.
- Watch out for store bought pasta and potato salads as they can be heavy on the mayonnaise. Cous cous salad is another goodie!
- Baked beans and spaghetti on toast is a quick, affordable and nutritious lunch option as is a boiled or poached egg.
- Fruit smoothies are full of protein, calcium and vitamins so try making at home.
- If you require a sweet treat finish off lunch with a piece of fruit, small handful of dried fruit or a pottle of yoghurt."
